Meet Our Staff

Dr Michael Smith - Principal Veterinarian

I have been a vet for 23 years now and still thoroughly enjoy what I do. I have a keen interest in surgery especially in orthopaedic operations such as cruciate repairs (Knee Reconstruction) and luxating patella surgery (Dislocating Knee Caps) which are common problem in dogs.

I am also interested in treating dogs with long standing skin problems and find it very rewarding to see animals recover from being extremely itchy & irritated to enjoying a normal life again. I love what I do, don't see it as "work" & enjoy the look on clients faces when their companion is back on the road to recovery.

I keep up to date by attending conferences & meetings regularly also the Australian Veterinary Association annual conferences and meetings.

I have completed post graduate studies in Small Animal Surgery.

In my spare time (when I have some) I enjoy spending time at the beach with my 3 children and lovable 'Dogue de Bordeaux' dog Heidi, a young and very destructive English bull terrier named Esmarelda, my three snakes Nagini, Bonnie and Slide and my Bearded dragon Blue beard. I also enjoy spending time on my pushbike, road racing & track (velodrome) racing.

Dr Faye Cannon -  Senior Veterinarian

I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (London) in 1998. After a couple of years working in London I emmigrated to sunny Australia. I have been practising on the beautiful Central Coast for 16 years and have been here at Stella Street Vets for the last 2.

My job is exciting, rewarding and challenging. I enjoy communicating with people and putting together a surgical or medical plan for their pet to ensure the best outcome possible. Working with animals is both a priviledge and a pleasure and there is never a dull moment when they are around!! Since I graduated there have been many exciting advances in veterinary medicine and surgery so it is vital to keep up to date with modern techniques and practices. I enjoy completing continuing education courses and attending seminars. Most recently I completed a post graduate course in Small Animal Surgery which enables me to provide even better surgical outcomes for my patients.

Out of the work place I am "Mum" to 3 energetic children who are my greatest assets. In my spare 3 minutes a week, my husband and I love to go walking, spend time in the garden or working on our home (a slow process)! In addition to the kids we have a lovable, deaf, cattle cross staffie called Mintie, a crazy and not so intelligent Kelpie, called Fred, King Ling our precious cat and Marvin Carlos my son's bearded dragon. Personally I love keeping fit doing fairly age inappropriate exercise such as mountain bike riding. My other passion is coffee and a good chat!
